Google’s commitment in supporting early stage startups

Oct 18, 2015

Google Indonesia recently launched an initiative called Investment Acceleration Program for VC aimed to provide support for portfolio companies through their respective VCs. Through the program, Google provides technology, industry insight, marketing best practices, and world-class advisory for both the VCs and their portfolio companies. Alpha JWC Ventures has been selected to become one of the first VC Partners for this program. To be eligible for this program, our portfolio companies need to have only been operating in the past 5 years or less, with a maximum of series B round of funding.

Alpha JWC Ventures and Google held a roundtable discussion with founders in early September to announce and kickoff this partnership. In the roundtable, our founders and their marketing teams had a chance to download insightful knowledge on various topics, including Indonesia’s latest app trends, how to acquire high-value users, and case studies on successful Google App Campaigns. On the first topic, the Head of Google Customer Solutions Indonesia shared with the audience the shift in the current tech landscape from a focus onUnicorns to Camels, companies which can survive and strive in situations such as the current pandemic. One of the impacts of such shifts is that companies are starting to choose sustainable growth strategies over hyper growth through a high-burn approach. As companies need to focus on acquiring high value users, Google SEA App Growth Manager shared the key metrics companies should monitor closely, such as conversion rate, CAC, and CLTV. On top of that, companies can also optimize their marketing campaigns to lower its acquisition cost and get desired results. Lastly, Google New Business Partnership Manager shared some lessons learned from recent successful marketing campaigns in Google and their driving factors. Based on these campaigns, it turns out having multiple assets in different forms, such as web, email, thumbnail video, etc. is crucial in order to attract attention. We ended the session by sharing a number of success formulas to the founders.

Aside from the above mentioned benefits, Alpha JWC Ventures’ early stage portfolio companies are also eligible for credits for Google Cloud Platform, Firebase, G-Suite, Maps, and more.  With these support from the Google Cloud for Startup Program, we hope to help our portfolio companies kickstart their business setup and growth more quickly, especially during the initial stage.
